Teri began drumming on a serious level at the age of 13, although she knew she wanted to be a drummer when she was about seven years old, when she created her first drum set with pots, pans, Tupperware, wooden spoons, and a Folger’s coffee can as her “throne” to call her own! She jammed out with her early influences, Earth Wind and Fire, Michael Jackson and Prince among others.
Teri remembers hearing people say “drums are for boys”, but she signed herself up to play in the drum corps her first day of school in 7th grade anyway, that’s when her mother realized she was serious about drumming and bought Teri her first drums set, a Ludwig Orange Vistalite, for her 13th birthday, she continued in the drum corps through high school, six years total while teaching herself on the kit at home. She had the priceless help with a few drum lessons to get started by a successful female drummer named Cam Davis who played with Fanny, Jethro Tull, Chris Williamson, Tret Fure and more. It wasn’t planned that Teri had a woman as her first drum teacher, she and her mother had just moved into a new house in Altadena, Ca and two female drummers happened to live in the front house on the property. Divine intervention? I do say!
Teri began playing drums professionally at the age of 14 with a family band called The Marcy Brothers, who were signed to Warner Brothers and opened for major acts including George Strait, Eddie Rabbit, Johnny Cash, , Alabama and many others. That was 41 years ago and Teri’s been playing professionally ever since.
The funk was Teri’s inspiration, her first real gig was a country gig and since then she’s played just about every style under the moon and stars since. She sincerely appreciates the traditions and fusions of all music. Her love of music goes way beyond drums, as she writes, sings, plays guitar as well. She has approximately 30 originals songs to her original repertoire which she’s in the process of recording. Teri enjoys helping others find their rhythm within, hence her love for teaching which she’s done for 22+ years.
The artists and bands listed below are from several different states in which Teri has lived and played music: California, Oregon, Nevada, Arizona, Texas and Massachusetts.
